There was confusion Wednesday morning as armed policemen reportedly sealed off Ekiti Government House and prevented supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose from entering.

It is understood that this frustrated a rally scheduled to take place at the new pavilion located at Fajuyi, which is within the vicinity of the Government House.

ThisDay reports that policemen allegedly teargassed the participants, including Governor Fayose.

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY called Fayose’s mobile number but it was switched off.

But his Special Adviser on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka confirmed the incident on Twitter and said the governor was teargassed by the policemen who laid siege at the Government House.

He added that Fayose is now receiving treatment at the Government House’s clinic.

Mr. Olayinka wrote, ”Gov Fayose, a few minutes ago escaped plot to assassinate him by Fayemi and his APC.

”He is currently receiving treatment at govt house clinic after he was hit by teargas canister fired by the policemen.

”The armed policeme are laying siege at the Govt House. ”

Olayinka  promised to provide more information on the governor’s health later.

The Nigerian government of President Muhammadu Buhari deployed about 30,000 police officers to Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The picture of a teargassed Fayose has gone viral on the internet, sparking outrage among Nigerians.

The Nigeria Police are yet to respond to the allegations.
