Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has charged the human rights community to be prepared “to halt fascism which has continued to rear its ugly head in the land.”
Mr. Falana made the call on Sunday when he asked the Department of State Services to immediately charge the senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Eyinnaya Abaribe, to court or grant him bail if it has not completed its investigations.
The human rigts lawyer also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct all security agencies in the country to respect the fundamental rights of every citizen.
Mr. Falana regretted that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government had been unable to end impunity which its members, including Buhari, had suffered in the hands of the then Peoples Democratic Party-led government when they were in opposition.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said, “The Department of State Services has said that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is being detained on account of his links with the Indigenous People of Biafra.
“It is common knowledge that the Senator had stood surety for Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.”
Operatives of the DSS had on Friday arrested Eyinnaya and raided his home in the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.
