The Department of State Services has arrested the Senator representing Abia South and Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Enyinnaya Abaribe two days after it arrested former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam.
He was arrested in Abuja on Friday at a hotel located at Maitama District by DSS operatives in mufti who had trailed him from the National Assembly.
Mr. Abaribe is an outspoken critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
The reason for his arrest is yet unknown as at the time of filing this report. But he had complained only on Thursday that about the “illegal addition” of N30 billion into the budget of power.
He had said, “The amount never passed through the senate power committee. Where did such huge sum of N30 billion come from? Let the budget office and other relevant bodies conduct self-examination. Such self-examination will go a long way to clear gray areas.”
The former Abia State deputy governor was also miffed that the budget allocation for the Enugu airport terminal was reduced by N500 million from the 2 billion that was originally submitted.
Senator Abaribe could have also incurred the wrath of the government when he stood as surety for IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was charged with treason against the Nigerian State.
