Egypt on Tuesday lost 1-3 to hosts Russia, in their second game in Group to A, played at Saint Petersburg to become the first team to crash out of the 2018 world cup.
The Pharaohs have no point from two matches played.
Despite star striker Mohamed Salah starting and scoring a penalty at the 73rd minute, the Russians coasted home to victory.
With that result, Russia are on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stage, having won the two matches they have played.
Uruguay and Saudi Arabia, the other teams in the group will play on Wednesday.
Uruguay already have three points off Egypt and Russia will go through should they beat or draw against Saudi Arabia.
