The police have arrested a naval rating, Yusuf Owolabi, for allegedly stabbing a woman, Taibat Badru, to death in Egan area of Lagos State.
The naval rating, said to be the son of a factional traditional ruler in the community, allegedly stabbed the 55-year-old woman with a knife on Friday.
She later died at the Alimosho General Hospital at Igando
The Lagos State Police Public Relaions Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident.
He said, “A naval rating with no 815/448, Yusuf Owolabi, aged 24, son of the factional baale of Egan and one other at large, went to Egan community and used a knife to stab one Tohbat Badiru, aged 55 years, in her back. She bled to death on her way to the general hospital. The suspect has been arrested and detained.”
It is understood that an aide to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly had alerted the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who ordered the arrest of the suspect.
The suspected killer rating was recently deployed to Lagos from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had on that day arrived in the village in company with a friend, a community source said.
According to the source the suspect got himself drunk before he picked a fight with the son of the deceased woman, named Quadri.
Quadri’s mother waded into the fight and was stabbed to death.
