Mikel Retains No.10 Jersey Despite Lack Of Creativity

Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi will retain the number 10 jersey, despite his lack of creativity and failure to fulfill the expectations attached to that jersey number.

This was disclosed after Nigeria’s 23-man squad to the 2018 World Cup were assigned squad numbers.

The match against England on Saturday had once again exposed Mikel’s lack of creativity, badly needed from a number 10.

Nigeria has failed to find a replacement for legendary midefielder, Jay-Jay Okocha since he retired from the national team.

Deportivo La Coruna’s Francis Uzoho, who is expected to start in goal at the World Cup will wear the No. 23 shirt, while fellow keepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi have been given the No.1 and No.16 jerseys respectively.

The No. 4 jersey, made popular by Nigerian legends, Muda Lawal, Stephen Keshi and Nwankwo Kanu, has been handed to Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi who plays for Leicester City.

China-based Odion Ighalo retains his No.9 shirt while Kelechi Iheanacho got the No.14.
