The Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Yusuf Baba, has been arrested by the Nigeria in connection with alleged mismanagement of government intervention funds on Small and Medium Enterprises for the youths.

Recall that the police had recently arrested the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters (Kwara South), Mr. Olalekan Alabi over the same funds.

Baba was reportedly apprehended in his residence on Thursday and taken to Abuja for interrogation.

However, when contacted on Friday, the Kwara State Government said Baba had honoured an invitation by the Nigeria Police Force to him.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Muyudeen Akorede said the state government believed the invitation is not unconnected with Baba’s role in small and medium enterprises programme, which is government intervention for youths.

According to him, the government’s youth intervention on SMEs was handled by CoS’s office.

He said, “The Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Yusuf Baba, responded to a police invitation to their office in Abuja.

“Our understanding is that the invitation is based on his role in government intervention for youths, specifically our SME programme, part of which was channelled through his office.”

The Nigeria Police is yet to officially confirm Baba’s arrest as at the time of filing this report. But a police source confided in CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that Mr. Baba was arrested.
