Gareth Bale came off the bench to play a decisive role with a brace as holders Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev to retain the Champions League.
The Galaticos with the victory became the first team to win the Champions League three times in a row. It took 24 years before nay team could retain the trophy. Real achieved that last year and topped it now by winning it again.
Karim Benzema was gifted a scandalous opening goal by goalkeeper Loris Karius on 51 minutes before Liverpool levelled through Sadio Mane, who was the best Red on the night.
Bale started only eight matches this season for Madrid but he made the difference after he replaced Isco on the hour mark.
His first touch of the ball was an overhead kick on 64 minutes to restore Real’s lead.
He was to strike again with seven minutes left to play, profiting again from Liverpool’s keeper’s blunder. Karius allowed Bale’s long-range harmless shot to end up in his net.
That sealed a record-extending 13th European Cup title for Real and made Zinedine Zidane the first coach to win the Champions Leagues in three consecutive seasons.
