Jibrin Laughs Last, Court Voids His suspension & Orders Payment Of Accrued Salaries

The former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin may have laughed last as the Federal High Court, Abuja on Thursday voided the 180-legislative-day suspension imposed on him by the House of Representatives on September 28, 2016.

Mr. Jibrin had challenged his suspension in court, which he said was illegal.

Justice John Tsoho, agreed with him and held that his suspension was unconstitutional.

He therefore ordered the lower legislative chamber to pay him all the salary due to him for the period he was illegally suspended.

“The suspension was an interruption of his earning which will be automatically restored especially when it has been decided that the action was a nullity by virtue of granting prayers 1 and 3 of the originating summons.

“When an action is declared nullity it is deemed that it never happened.”

Mr. Jibrin was suspended by his colleagues after he blew he whistle in July 2016, alleging budget padding to the tune of N40bn by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, and other principal officers of the House.

He had reported the alleged corrupt act to the various law enforcement agencies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and the police.

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY can not confirm that the allegations were investigated.

Instead the House of Representatives tagged his actiona campaign of calumny against the House and its leaders for which he was shown the door for 180 legislative days.

However, Jibrin had since resumed his legislative duties.
