With Senate President Bukola Saraki tight-lipped, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has risen in defence of his colleague Dino Melaye, faulting his arrest by the Nigeria Police.
The Senator representing Kogi West was admitted into an Abuja hospital on Tuesday after he was allegedly brutalized by police operatives when he attempted to escape from police custody.
Reacting to Melaye’s travails, the lawmaker, representing Bayelsa East constituency, wrote on his Twitter page, wondered what becomes of an ordinary Nigerian citizen in a democratic government if a senator could be treated in such way.
He noted that the APC would not have been here if PDP treated their members in such manner, adding that opposition was good for democracy.
On his Twitter page, Bruce wrote “You may think what is happening to Senator @dino_melaye is just his business, but think deep about this.
There has not been a word from Mr. Saraki over the arrest of one of his closest allies in the Nigerian Senate.
Nigerians recall the solidarity, Melaye and other senators showed him during his trial at the CCT for false assets declaration.
