President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday put to rest speculations over his second term ambition when he announced his intention to seek re-election in 2019.
The declaration was contained in a Tweet by the President’s Personal Assistant on New Media | Engagement, Bashir Ahmad.
This comes on the heel of the president’s scheduled trip to the United Kingdom on Monday for the meetings of the Commonwealth Heads of States – though he is going to London, venue of the meeting, one week ahead of the meetings.
The presidency on Sunday insisted that, despite going ahead of schedule, the visit remains official. However, there are rumours in Nigerian circles that Mr. Buhari is leaving one week ahead of schedule to first attend to his health.
Buhari’s poor health has remained a talking point in his presidency.
