As Nigerians look beyond the two major political parties for solutions to the country’s monumental problems, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, may have given them a credible alternative with a quasi-approval of the Alternative Party of Nigeria (APN) as a new political party.
In a letter dated 8th March, 2018, which was sighted by CHECKPOINTCHARLEY, INEC, in response to APN’s application for registration as a political party, conveyed to the party’s protem Chairman, approval of its name.
INE wrote, “the Commission has considered your application and found that the proposed name/acronym/logo comply with the requirements for registration as a political party under Sec. 222 of the Constitution of FRN 1999 (as amended).
“You may therefore wish to proceed with other requirements in line with the approved guidelines for Registration of political Parties obtainable from the Commission’s Elections and Party Monitoring (EPM) dept…”
With the approval of the party’s chosen name, the issuance of the certificate of registration is a mere formality and should follow in a matter of days.
“We are now waiting for the certificate of registration to be issued,” one of those behind the party, who pleaded anonymity, told this blog.
“Our goal is to save this country from collapse, by providing the electorates with an alternative.
“APN would be a vehicle for forgotten Nigerians on a journey to take back their country,” she added.
