The first and only Nigerian to win Gold at the Olympics, Chioma Ajunwa has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the promotion of the former long jumper on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old had stunned the world to become the first and only athlete in Nigeria to win an individual Olympic gold in the long jump event in Atlanta ’96.
Ajunwa, who had also played football, is also the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold in a field event.
Lagos Police Public Relations officer, Chike Oti, said, “The former gold medalist has been promoted to the rank of ACP. She is with the PTS.”
