Choirul Huda, goalkeeper of Indonesian first division club, Persela Lamongan died on Sunday after a collision during a league game against Pedang.
The 38-year-old reportedly collapsed towards the end of the first 45 minutes after he collided with team-mate Ramon Rodrigues and Pedang forward Marcel Sacramento.
He was stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital following the three-man clash. But he could no longer be revived.
Dr. Nugroho, from Dr. Soegiri Lamongan hospital in Lamongan, East Java, said the collision resulted in Huda “stopping breathing and [caused a] cardiac arrest”.
He said a medical team attempted to revive him but after an hour there were “no reflexes of signs of normal life”.
Had made his debut in 1999 and had played nearly 500 games for the club.
