The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has taken exception to the presidential campaign of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.
Mr. Makarfi, talking to journalists in Kaduna on Wednesday, said Fayose is on his own, as he is operating contrary to the position of the PDP.
The outspoken governor had last month flagged off his campaign to vie for the 2019 Presidency. Fayose had said that his decision to seek the PDP presidential ticket for 2019 against the party’s zoning policy is without prejudice to the party’s stand.
But Makarfi maintained that it is contrary to the decision of the party’s convention that zoned presidency to the North
He said: “He (Fayose) is on his own. What he is doing is not in compliance with the position of the party. The party’s position has not changed.
“The convention has zoned the presidency to the North and the chairmanship of the party to the South.”
The PDP interim chairman also dismissed speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could be given an automatic ticket to contest the presidency in 2019 on the platform of the PDP if he finally decided to join the party.
