Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, has been flown out to the United States, where he is now receiving medical treatment for prostrate cancer and urinary ailments.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, during a press briefing in Abuja to commemorate the 2017 World Teachers’ Day.
Mr. Adamu, who did not disclose the illness, urged Nigerians to pray for Anwuka, so that he could “return to the ministry in good health and continue this task of nation-building with us.”
But a reliable source in the ministry said, “It is the normal sickness of old people, prostate problem. But it is not a very serious matter. It is just that he decided to rest in the US. As far as the education ministry is concerned, he is not very sick. It is not like he collapsed or anything.”
Anwuka, 66 years old from Imo State, was the Vice-Chancellor of the Imo State University, Owerri, and a former Secretary to the State Government, before becoming a minister in 2015. CHECKPOINTCHARLEY understands that he is an inlaw to Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha.
Despite preaching change during the 2015 election, members of the country’s ruling party are still junketing abroad on medical pilgrimage, while they have failed to provide health care for Nigeria’s teeming population.
