President Muhammadu Buhari, who just returned from a 104 days medical trip to the United Kingdom, is set to jet out of the country to the United States next week to honour an expired invitation President Trump extended to him in February after his inauguration as the 45th US president.
According to an itinerary seen by SaharaReporters, Mr. Buhari will leave his hometown, Daura, by helicopter at 9:15 am on Monday for Katsina airport. From there, he will fly out at 10 am aboard a presidential jet to Washington, DC.
This visit is coming as a shock to Nigerians, who disapprove of their president’s priorities, especially when Mr. Buhari has not deemed it fit to visit Benue State where flood had sacked over 110,000 people.
President Trump that he is visiting had gone to Houston-Texas to comfort with victims of tropical storm Harvey and is scheduled to go there again this week, apart from donating $1 million of his personal money.
After staying away from his job for another 104 days on medical grounds, the only place Buhari had gone was to his village, Duara for Eid Mubarak.
President Buhari had returned on 19 August from the medical trip after much pressure from Nigerians protesting his long absence from duty.
Meanwhile, a Presidency insider said there is anxiety within Aso Rock that the trip may turn out to have a medical tone.
