The killings continued in Benue State on Sunday as another aide to Governor Samuel Ortom was assassinated when gunmen broke into his residence and shot him and his wife.

The aide killed was Dr Tavershima Adyorororough, the Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge Economy and Investments to Benue State Governor. He died from his gunshot injuries, while his wife is now lying in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital.

This happened around 12.30am on Sunday when the gunmen invaded his residence at Nyinma layout in Makurdi, Benue state capital, sources said.

Governor Ortom has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Dr. Adyorororough’s killers.

A press statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase, and made available to journalists on Sunday, confirmed Dr Adyororough’s assassination.

Governor Ortom described the killing as unacceptable and condemnable, requesting security agencies to swing into action immediately so as to arrest those responsible for the dastardly act, the statement said.

Recall that the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on security matters was brutally murdered in 2016 at his residence along Mobile Barracks, Makurdi. The Benue Governor had blamed the notorious militant, Terwase Akwaza, aka, Ghana for his death and the incessant killings in the State. Ortom had ordered a manhunt for Ghana but he is yet to be fished out by the Nigeria Police despite recent false report by the police that he was killed in a gun duel with police operatives.
