On Sunday daredevil assassins wrecked mayhem on St.Philips Catholic Church Ozubulu in the Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State , killing 11 worshippers and wounding over 18 others in an early morning attack during mass as they reportedly targeted a billionaire from the town, rumoured to be a drug baron.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has obtained photo and video of the alleged drug mogul.
He is High Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu, (Ebubechukwuzo Ozubulu), popularly known as Bishop. It is gathered that he had recently returned from South Africa, where he resides. And according to an account of an Ozubulu native, the gunmen had gone to Bishop’s house, but were told that he was not around. They asked after his dad and were told that he was attending 6am mass, so they traced him to the church.
That was how the gunmen, said to be masked, went to the church and when they could not find their target, they killed his father and angrily embarked on a shooting spree that left another ten dead and wounded 18 others.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY had reported that the senseless killing was part of a drug war that has claimed the lives of over 30 Ozubulu indigenes based in South Africa. The war was reportedly triggered by a feud between one Bishop and his fellow Ozubulu indigene. It is understood that the feud concerned a failed business deal.
An Ozubulu native, who does not want her name in print, has exclsuively told CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that it has been a long standing feud.
“The community had tried to settle it between the parties but to no avail,” the lady said.
She also narrated how Bishop was born into poverty, as the son of pap-selling mother, whose wealth exploded after her mother’s death.
Bishop, a popular philanthropist from Ozubulu, is said to have single-highhandedly built the St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, scene of the Sunday early morning bloodbath.
During his 36th Birthday ceremony on 1st May 2017, Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano was reportedly in attendance and had also used the occasion to commission some rural roads built by the South African based Bishop for his community.
See the video below, showing that Mr. Ikegwuonu dined with the high and mighty, including governors, catholic bishops and priests and was treated as a VIP and leader in his community, who sat alone in the front pew during church service…..
