After losing out on their main summer target, Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea took some consolation in completing the move of German defence rock, Antonio Rüdiger to Stamford Bridge on a five-year contract.
The deal for the Roma defender, who was solid at the back as Germany cruised to a Confederation Cup triumph recently in Russia was finalised on Saturday when the two clubs agreed a fee that could rise to £34million for the 24-year-old.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY understands that personal terms have now been tidied up and the ex-Stutgatter will become the second major signing of the summer for the Premier League champions after the arrival Willy Caballero from Man City.
“I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and I’m very proud to officially become a Chelsea player.”
After spending the last two seasons in Serie A, joining Roma on loan at the start of the 2015-16 season, it was obvious to see in Russia that Rudiger has become a world class defender, like German coach, Joachim Löw had always believed.
Solid move by Chelsea.
