Rafael Nadal of Spain beat Swiss Stan Wawrinka in three straight sets, 6-2,6-3 and 6-1 to win an unprecedented 10th French Open title and remain invincible on clay. Nadal had in April won his tenth Monte Carlo trophy and repeated the same in Barcelona the following week.
Nadal’s taking his 10th Roland Gallos title is one of the greatest feat in the history of tennis. Unforgettable is the fact that tennis legends like Boris Becker, Jimmy Connors and Pete Sampras all failed to triumph at the French Open.
Conversely, Nadal, who has had his best run on clay since 2010, winning the joint-highest number of Masters (30) and reaching the most finals (45). is one of the few players to have won a Grand slam on all surfaces. The Spaniard seems to be made for the red surface and the French Open, winning a total of 73 matches and lost only twice as he gathered his ten Roland Garros trophies.
