UPDATED! Nigeria Police Arrest Former Jigawa Gov, Sule Lamido

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has been informed that former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido has been arrested by the Nigeria Police. Mr. Lamido had about ten days ago described President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war as  ‘noise.’ He said it’s unthinkable that the EFCC discovered huge monies (nearly N15 billion) in a flat (Osborne Towers) in Lagos but could not track the real owner. “Who leaked the story? Who did the source say is the owner of the fund?” he had asked.

However, it is understood that the ex-governor was arrested for allegedly inciting his supporters to disrupt the conduct of local government elections organized by the government of Governor Muhammad Badaru.

The council elections are slated for July 1.

He was arrested at his Sharada Kano home on Sunday morning and taken to the Zone One Command of the Nigeria Police in Kano.

Lamido’s arrest is said to be connected with a programme aired on one of the Kano local radio stations.

He was alleged to have told his supporters, during the programme, to ensure that they win the local governments elections by all means.

Police Public Relations officer, Zone 1, DSP Sambo Sokoto confirmed Lamido’s arrest.

He said, “Yes I was told that the former governor was invited at Zone 1, but I was trying to get the details when you called me now.”
