Manchester United’s super-star player Zlatan Ibrahimovic got a dream debut for his new club as the Red Devils faced Galatasaray in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. The former Swedish international dealt well with the pressure of the weight of expectations and rose to the occasion to score just after four minutes on his first appearance for Manchester United.
He netted with a stunning overhead kick from an Antonio Valencia cross from the right flank. Man Utd later went n to win the game 5-2, with Wayne Rooney grabbing a brace.
Ibrahimovic was included by Jose Mourinho in the starting eleven for the clash against the Turkish team despite only joining his new team-mates for training this week.
He was allowed to skip the pre-season tour of China but Mourinho was not the least bothered by his lack of preparation.
“The best suits are suits by measure,” Mourinho said when explaining why he was absent from the China trip. “You go for a size that fits you. Same for players. No two players are the same.
“The decision on Zlatan is the consequence of many hours of study. He was out (of the Euros) one match before the English guys. The body and mind is different.
“Players prepare in a different way. We’re trying to do suits by measure and to be perfect for the person.”
Speaking before the match, Ibrahimovic admitted he was aware expectations were high for his first game in a red shirt.
“I think the fans are waiting for me to come back and they are waiting to enjoy not only me, but the team as well.
“Hopefully, we can give them a good game and, at the same time, we are in the preparation.
“We need to keep focused, to build up the physical part and the conditioning part but we will give them what they want.”
